Super Bowl Sunday & World Nutella Day

Editorial Creatives brings you a fun post dedicated to all the fans of that all-American sport—football, plus lovers of that decadent hazelnut spread—Nutella. Oh yes, Sunday, February 5, 2012 is Super Bowl XLVI. It also happens to be the official 6th World Nutella Day. What a sweet coincidence!

As you watch the New York Giants play against the New England Patriots in Indianapolis, IN—home of the Super Bowl, why not add some Nutella-inspired goodies and desserts to your spread of game time fare.

Did You Know – Bits of Nutella History

  • Nutella was created during the 1940s, a time in history when cocoa was being rationed.
  • As with most innovators, Mr. Pietro Ferrero, a pastry maker and founder of the Ferrero Company sought a solution. He concocted the earliest version of this tasty treat by using an alternate ingredient—hazelnuts.
  • Hazelnuts were aplenty in the Piedmont region of Italy, even during World War II.

Thankfully the U.S. imported this Italian product more than 25 years ago. Today, it has become a popular staple in many homes because of its rich, creamy texture—a blend of roasted hazelnuts, skim milk and a touch of cocoa.

With 27,000-plus fans for “World Nutella Day” and over 12 million Nutella fans on Facebook, Nutella is a mainstay in homes across the globe. It’s not surprising because the delicious spread is the perfect complement to bread, crepe and fruit, and contains no artificial colors or preservatives.

At any rate, Super Bowl Sunday is going to be quite interesting for my family. As a longtime resident of both NJ and NY—unsurprisingly, I’m a Giants fan. Interestingly enough, my husband is from the New England area, and is a hardcore Patriots fan.

Regardless of who wins, it’s going to be an exciting game.

So…are you ready for some football? When your home is fully stocked with Krispy treats mixed with Nutella, cupcakes or burgers with sweet and spicy, Nutella-coated bacon, I’d say, “Yes. You’re definitely ready for some football.”
